It’s been a while since real, mature music was heard in Kenya! Now, Valerie Kimani is setting standards in the industry both at home and abroad! It is indeed a breath of fresh air!Her debut effort”Baisikeli”, is  a masterpiece putting her on the same level as the likes of Zama Jobe,Thandiswa Mazwai and Kelly Khumalo(my personal favorites)!Valerie is a young, fresh, energetic and passionate musician. Although she only recently burst on the scene as winner of East Africa’s reality show Project Fame, this 22-year-old singer exudes the confidence of a seasoned international musician. Part of her winning package was a three-year contract to Africa’s leading music label Gallo Records in South Africa .Honestly, i have never heard someone brave enough to try something so expressive on the first ever release!Way to go girl!

She has launched the 13 track album which is bound to be a rocker for those who love afro fusion,jazzlike/ neo soul, mature kind of music .Can’t wait to get a copy!It surely is a keepers item!Holla back!

Kenyan group Yunasi have been named the winners of BBC World Service’s Next Big Thing 2007 competition at the Maida Vale studios in London. The band, comprising seven men from East Africa and a French woman, triumphed with their song Ndi Ndi Ndi, about the dangers of excess drinking.

They were praised by the all-star judging panel for their “wide open, exuberant vocals” and for being “different to 99% of pop music”.

“Somehow we knew we were going to take it,” said the band’s lead singer Simon Maranga Nyarieko.

“Our song is the best thing that has ever been done in terms of music. We came thinking we were going to take the prize, but we were nervous. Now we have it,we are good to go!”Kudos guyz!!!!
